Have you ever seen a couple that have been together for a while and are still giving the mushy mushy lovey dovey vibes? You know those kinds of couples that just make you want to fall in love and get married immediately, the ones that make staying married look really easy..yeah, those are the ones I’m talking about.

If you’ve had the opportunity to sit with any of them and really have a heart-to-heart, they’ll tell you long-term relationships are anything but a walk in the park. It requires a lot of effort and intentionality to keep the sparks flying. And on the list of intentional things you need to do, communication is at the very top of it. As cheap as that seems, it can be a chore sometimes. Games play a large part in fostering that communication.

Games aren’t just a way to let off steam and have fun, they’re also a great way to keep the conversation going with your partner in your relationship. Here are a few games you can try to keep your love going strong.

Board Games

Whether it’s the game strategy you’re discussing, arguing about moves, the resultant effect of the moves or points, pure banter or it could even be other personal issues or life lessons from the game.

Board games like; scrabble, chess, monopoly, cash flow have always had the ability to keep the conversation flowing. The good thing about these board games is that they can be educative and engaging without being too immersive so you can discuss with your partner without having to lose your game play.

Card Games

card games are great for helping couples converse

You can enjoy an intriguing conversation with your significant other over a game of cards. Not just with your regular card games but also custom made ones that have been laced with all sorts of interesting questions on various steamy topics you might be skeptical about bringing up with your partner. Trust me when I say navigating sensitive conversations in relationships has never been easier. At least you didn’t write the questions, it’s what the card says and they have to answer. I love it! Check out unboxed.games for amazing varieties of riveting couple edition card games. Enjoy the conversations and the aftermath guys.

Video Games

If you like video games, you can try any of these (Minecraft, Zombie Games like Left4dead, COD, Mario, Mortal Kombat) with your partner or against your partner. However, my advice is to play with your partner against the computer or a couple of friends because if you decide to play against your partner and she’s anything like me…hmmmn.

If it’s a draw, then, it’s fine. If it’s within the range of three to nothing, I can still live with myself but anything beyond that, let’s just say the conversation is over and I’ll sulk all day long and you better be ready to do all the chores you don’t like that day because I’ll come up with fifty-one reasons why you should be the one to do them.

Truth or Dare

You already know the rules of this game but you probably never played it as a couple. This is the perfect situation for a truth or dare game, especially if you guys just finished settling a misunderstanding and you’re hoping for a lil’ something something for makeup.

Just suggest playing a game of truth or dare and make sure the conditions attached are as sensual as it can be. The game might start out awkwardly but it won’t take time before you find yourselves “between the sheets.”

Flip, Sip or Slip

This is a close alternative to truth or dare. It is best played with a coin, a bottle of wine and a shot glass. So the general rule is that you toss the coin in the air and while it’s flipping down, you call out, “head or tail?”

Your partner makes a choice and if they’re right, you get to take a sip of the drink or take off a piece of cloth and vice versa. You can take turns to flip the coin. The best part of this game is that unlike truth or dare, the rules do not allow you to pick only one option repeatedly, if you’ve picked the sip option before, the next option you’ll have to choose is to slip off one clothing item.

Dice Games

These are some of the best couple games. I’m not talking about the regular dice games where you throw it down and win some money. This is “a couple kinda dice game” where the participants must actively collaborate to determine the terms and conditions of the game.

If you’re feeling creative, you can design a rules card labelled with numbers from 2 to 12, so you can agree that scoring a total of two points when you roll the dice, earns you a lick, three could be a kiss, five could be a touch in an erogenous zone, etc.

There’s no limit really, you make the rules, you enjoy the thrill. If you don’t feel up to generating your own rules, you can check out amazon; they have all sorts of interesting couple dice games with ready made rules that are fun and sure to take you there. *winks*

Lovify

After a while in relationships, “see finish” can try to get the better of us. Playing the Lovify game is a great way to rectify that and explore all the intimate corridors of your hearts again.

Lovify is a great relationship quiz game for couples that’s both funny and engaging. It covers various aspects of the relationship from romantic and intimate to food and drinks, to trivias, to movies, series and songs, to gifts and surprises, etc.

The game has two rounds; the first round begins with both of you choosing your preferences, then the next round, where your partner tries to guess your answers.and you score them. The best part of the Lovify game is that it’s a win-win situation even if you don’t score as high as your partner because you’ll have refreshed your memory or learnt something new about your partner.

It can serve as a great ice breaker / conversation starter for all those awkward dates.                               Lovify is a mobile app that can also be played online even when you and your partner are not together in the same space.

Role Play

So this involves channeling your inner baddie vibes. See those fantasies that have been in your head since forever, now is a good time to unleash with your partner. Both of you can exchange ideas on what you want and how you want it.

Then go ahead and put action to it. To make things easier, if you have a movie that depicts the character you’re trying to imitate, you can play the movie and follow the script. The goal is to have fun and strip away those layers while you’re at it.

The good thing about role play is that it unlocks an adventurous side to your relationship and provides a unique peek into your partner’s mind.

Hidden Gems

I love this game in particular because I invented it. It involves writing out your dreams, ideas, questions, fantasies, stuff from your bucket list or anything you want to discuss with your partner on pieces of paper and hiding each piece around the house (your partner too will do the same).

Then you take turns in looking for one at a time. Once you find it, you can go ahead to discuss the content of the piece of paper. However, there are a few rules to note, if your partner gives you hints before you find the piece of paper, for every hint you get to take off a clothing item.

If you don’t get hints, your partner gets to do the same but it gets better, they give you a horse/piggy back ride. You can time yourselves to make it more fun. The idea is to have stimulating conversations in a way that is both fun and sensual.

Games have always been a way for adults to connect with their inner child and bond with each other. You should adopt this concept in your relationship. A couple that plays together will definitely stay together (now I’m dropping bars…lol). All I’m just saying is that life is already hard, our relationships don’t have to be when we can leverage simple things like games to keep the wheels moving and maintain the sparks.
